Team Fortress 2
Team Fortress 2 is an M-Rated FPS available as part of the Orange Box
on 360, PC and PS3, and as a standalone on PC and Mac. In it, you play
one of 9 classes, each with their own skills and weaknesses. TF2
features brilliant colors and a great 1960s art style, and the cartoony
characters each retain a wonderful personality and hilarious lines. The
creators of TF2, Valve, are very active in their community, and often
involve players in the development of the game. The controls work smooth
as can be, and almost every weapon has an interesting special trait.
TF2 is easily one of my favorite games, and I give it a 9/10. -MS
N.O.V.A
By: Gameloft
For: iPhone and iPod touch
N.O.V.A . is currently one of the iTunes app store's best first person shooters. With very well done 3-D graphics, a great story, and an amazing online community this game is for any person who wants a good shooter for the iPhone/iPod touch. The "story" takes place in an alternate future where Earth can no longer sustain life, so all the humans create these huge artificial satellites called "near-orbitals" that people live on. The satellite colonies call themselves N.O.V.A. (Near-Orbit Vanguard Alliance). But that is just the back story. In the beginning of the the "story" mode you are a retired Marine (sound familiar? Look back at my first movie review! -DB) named Kal Wardin who against his will is brought out of retirement to investigate the disappearance of a Marine space vessel. But little does he know that the fate of Mankind is in his hands!!!!! The other great component of this game is the online section. In this you are able to play online world wide (1-4 players), locally (1-4 players), or through bluetooth (2 players only). With five relatively large maps and 6 different weapons plus grenades the online play has basically no flaw except for 1 or 2 things (nothing can be perfect right?). My first problem with the online and story play is that you are not able to crouch behind barriers. Now I know it sounds minor but trust me if you are playing with decently good players you'll have no chance of staying alive if you stand in the open trying to snipe people and a simple solution to that would be to be able to crouch. My other "complaint" is that there are too many glitches from people not being able to be killed from people jumping so high they kill everyone before they hit the ground! But overall this is a great game for the iPhone/ iPod touch and a great way to play with your friends over your Wi-fi connection. -DB
